continue from the previous post…
No! Lee Sedol 9p refused to play at A. He simply made the exchange
of W40 and B41, left some aji, and played at W42 at the lower left
corner! It looks like the 4 white stones on the left side can be dead
at any moment…
Black started attacking at 45. White 46 is a very nice tesuji. It aims at the cutting point at A, and clamp at B.
After a few moves, Black decided to play at 59 to capture two white
stones. However, this leaves white an opportunity to play at A to make
2 eyes. Given the circumstance, I would assume almost everyone would
play at A now to secure the white group.
Wait… White did not play at A to live. He played at 62… I don’t
know what Lee Seldo 9p thought at that moment, but I wouldn’t gamble on
the life and death of such a huge group…
(To be continued…)

Isn’t white threatening at some point to link 24 & 46? This will then shift the attack onto the black group? Even if white can’t kill black, 46 can then connect to 16 or 62? So in a way, life at A or connection to 46 is miai?
Chris: yes, white can play at A or connect to 46. However, the problem is that it is difficult for white to run out even with the connection to 46. You will find out in the next post.
