The 6th World Ing Cup, Gu Li 9p v. Yamashida Keigo 9p (Graph 8-14)

Continued from previous post

8

White managed to connect his group with 72. However, black 73-75 are very strong moves. White’s five stones are short of liberty, and the three stones at N6 are almost dead. It seems like the game is getting more favorable for black now.

9_2

After a fight, players made an exchange. Black sacrificed the upper right corner to capture white’s left group. Also, there are much less aji in Black’s lower-right territory now. The game is still very close.

11

Black 101 is a crucial mistake. He must have overlooked white 102 tesuji. Please really think about how this tesuji works. (hint: black can capture w’s 102 with ladder, but…)

12_2

Black tried very hard to capture white’s group, but white 132 is the living move. It aims at both A and B, and there is no way black can capture now.

13

With 142, white made 2 eyes. However, black’s group did not have 2 eyes yet…

14

After black lived with 143, white 144 and 146 are too severe. Black will likely to lose a group now. Furthermore, even if he managed to make 2 eyes for both groups, he probably will not have enough territory.
