21th World Fujitsu Semi-Final, Lee Chang Ho - Liu Xing (Graph 14-18)

Continued from previous post…

14

Because the Ko is very big for both side, black chose to finish the Ko when white started with the smallest Ko-threat at 152. Black gained from this exchange but white still keeps sente and a small lead.

15

White 170 is a huge reverse-sente yose move. However, black 171 is also huge. Game is still very close.

16

White 180-184 are sente yose moves before S3. However, black overlooked his liberty problem and neglected to make the A-B exchange before responding at C.

17

White 186 is a nice tesuji. Now black has to fight a ko to connect his group because L4 is white’s sente move. However, this tesuji is not terribly difficult to find, and players at this level could have spotted this tesuji a mile away. I think it was probably due to time pressure.

18

After a long ko fight, black had to give up his center group which sealed white’s win.

Rest omitted, white + R.
